A Faithful Dog Will Play With You And Laugh With You - Or Cry-
He'll Gladly Starve To Stay With You
Nor Ever Reason Why,
And When You're Feeling Out Of Sorts
Somehow He'll Understand
He'll Watch You With His Shining Eyes
And Try To Lick Your Hand.
His Blind, Implicit Faith In You
Is Matched By His Great…

I just returned from a back to school night for Jamaal this evening. His is the first of three that I have to attend; "three kids, three schools, etc." I arrived late because I had to take my daughter to an appointment earlier in the evening. My oldest had gotten permission to not attend his football game so that I could go to back to school night ( I know, he's special!).
I'm so glad I made it. I had been worried since there were so many things that appeared to be out of place when school star…

I met Julie Moran recently at a Virtual Assistants’ retreat in Phoenix. After getting to know her, I asked if she’d put together something for my blog. She’s passionate about therapy dogs, and about her Virtual Assistant business, www.delegatethedetails.com. Here’s the story of Julie and Payson, her therapy dog.…

Do not lose hope
when I seem
so far away
when
I cannot speak,
know
that I still have
things to say
like "I love you"
even if
it is only a touch
of my hand
or brushing your
face
or arm
as I pass
I spin
and hop
and flap and
jump
and am locked
within myself
so deeply
that i do not always
acknowledge
those around me
I shriek
I yell
I rock
and kick
and fight
against myself
and everyone else...
but i feel you
and I know you are there-
these dreams
and thoughts
and ideas
just get trapped
inside my…

I decided to apply to 4 Paws for a service dog for Jamaal at this time for two reasons. Number one, I kept telling my self that I needed to wait for "the right time" because we live in an apartment and I thought 'a dog needs space'. I let that one go because there really is no "right time" there is just time and it was passing away while I waited. Number two, Jamaal was getting older, looking older but in terms of his peers (kids his age who don't have a developmental disability) the gap was wid…

I don't know what we ever did without Polly. She stopped Cody from going out into the garage, just moments before he had a grandmal seizure. It could have been very bad if he would have went in and seized in the garage with the motorcycles in there, and other stuff in the garage that he might have falled over and gotten hurt. It just give me goose bumps to think she may not have barked on the onset of a seizure but she kept him from harms way, just moments before he went into a seizure. She is t…

So we are so close to our goal, but we are getting a little discouraged. We live in a small town that most everyone has already donated, plus being that the country is in a difficult time financially not many companies are donating. Does anyone have any ideas for hopefully finishing up the fundraising? I have really enjoyed meeting so many people during this experience, but now people are starting to get upset hearing from me. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Help Please!!!

Does anyone know an easy way to get a service dog (Polly) to go in the water? I don't want to scare her, but I would love for her to get in the pool with Cody. Any ideas?

Yesterday we started "gearing up" for Lacey's 4th birthday. Lindsey thinks its funny that Lacey is going to be FOUR just like her! LOL I went to petsmart yesterday and get her a bone (to help w/ her teeth)... not a Nylabone - because she doesn't like those - but a Dentabone - which she likes. I also got her a new stuft toy. I had to send it to my Mom's though- to have a "squeaker-ectomy" because (as you may/ may not know) TRACKING dogs cannot have squeaker toys. SO - we remove the squeaker and s…

Well, it wasn't much, but i received a check from Pampered Chef today for $194 for Matt's SD. :) The consultant who did the fundraiser also told me that she'd give us 10% of total sales so that'll be a little over $100 more. ;-) Thinking about doing a joint fundraiser with Caliese at the 4th of July celebration. (for Erik)
He shrieks
as he pulls up grass and
delights in the feel of sun on his
face
and I am lost in his eyes...
He touches every leaf
he passes,
every flower,
every petal
and claps with delight
at the feel of the rain on his skin...
He has lived a lifetime in
just shy of nine years
I've seen his scars
and know his pain,
and my heart breaks
at any sadness he might know
This boy with the deep brown
eyes
an ocean of dreams
waiting just beyond the horizon...
Locked inside himself
and yet,
h…

Hello,
I'm writing to you about a fantastic opportunity! The first ever full-length anthology of true stories about people with disabilities and their service dogs is in the works! This exciting venture will gather writings from and about people who work with, train, breed, raise, and simply observe service dogs of all types at work. You and your clients can be part of a book that will break down barriers and replace misperceptions with the awesome reality of what service dogs and people with d…

I was embarassed as a young mother when elderly woman at the grocery store would stop to oogle over my son and he would only stare at them. If they dared to pat his head or hand, he would launch into a tantrum that could bring the walls down. Abandoning my cart I would man-handle him out of the store while sustaining kicks to groin. All the while, I could see on-lookers shaking their heads and staring in arrogant disapproval. We would both cry all the way home, as I wondered how I was failing my…
